Japanese Joinery Intensive
Five day intensive focused on Japanese joinery!
Japanese joinery is famous for its sophistication. This class will dive deeply into the subtleties of various joints, namely kanawa (scarf), shachi (keyed tenoned scarf) and several kinds of mortises and tenons: pegged, wedged and tusked. The precise execution of joinery requires sharp tools so participants will also learn sharpening with Japanese water stones focused on chisels. Each student will create a “joinery tree”; one could also call it a “joinery sculpture" composed of the numerous joints covered over the week.
It is not required but worth considering to take the Japanese Tools Intensive as a foundation for this class.
This special class covers the equivalent of 8 standard classes!
