Multi-day workshop to build and assemble a 6′ x 12′ Japanese timber frame structure.
Prerequisites
Sharpening or some sharpening experience
Recommended
One joinery class, preferably Mortice and Tenon or similar experience
Tools Required (BASIC TOOL LIST)
- Japanese sharpening combination water stone 1000/6000 grit
- 1/2”(12mm) and 1″ (24mm) bench chisel (Japanese preferred )
- Japanese saw 240mm and 270mm ryoba style
- Medium hammer 570gr/20oz
- 2-3 sheets 220 wet dry sand paper
- Japanese square (sashigane)
- Pencil, square, old towel or large rag.
Optional (IDEAL TOOL LIST)
- Japanese sharpening water stone 1000-1200 grit
- Japanese sharpening water stone 3000-4000 grit
- Japanese sharpening water stone 6000-10 000 grit
- 1/2″ ,1” and one larger 1 1/2″-2″ Japanese timber chisels
- 1/2” as well as 1″ or larger Japanese push/paring chisel
- Japanese smoothing or block plane 48mm
- Japanese scraper plane (tachiganna) 42mm or 48mm
- Japanese saw 240mm and 270mm ryoba style
- Japanese saw 240mm crosscut dozuki (backsaw)
- Japanese saw 300mm kataba (single side) tatebiki (rip)
- Japanese saw 300mm kataba (single side) yokobiki (crosscut)
- Medium Japanese hammer 570-670gr
- Small Japanese hammer 225gr
- 2-3 sheets 220 wet dry sand paper
- Beveled straight edge
- Japanese square (sashigane)
- Standard square
- Pencil and old towel or large rag
