Shoji Making

In this three day class, you will learn how to make a shoji (paper backed sliding screen) that is a classic functional and decorative detail in Japanese design. To accommodate apartment living and as a learning project, each participant will make a moderate size shoji, around 24”x24”. All of the same methods used in full size shojis, 36”x72”, will be used in the smaller version.  We will also cover design considerations, choice of wood, paper and joinery.
